IV3000 by Smith & Nephew is a transparent polyurethane catheter fixation dressing built around REACTIC film technology — a unique molecular film structure that becomes significantly more permeable to water vapor in the presence of moisture. Note: IV3000 is indicated for IV catheter sites only. For open wounds such as pressure injuries, burns, or donor sites, use OpSite Flexigrid instead. Apply to dry, prepared skin only. Do not stack or overlap dressings.
How IV3000 Works — REACTIC Film Technology
Standard polyurethane IV films have a fixed moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) — they allow a set amount of water vapor to pass through regardless of conditions at the site. The problem is that IV sites are dynamic — perspiration, patient movement, and local skin conditions cause moisture levels beneath the dressing to fluctuate. A fixed-MVTR film can't respond to that variability, and moisture accumulates.
IV3000's REACTIC film solves this with a unique molecular structure that changes its own permeability in response to moisture. When moisture builds up beneath the dressing, the film switches to a higher MVTR state, allowing that moisture to escape as vapor rather than pooling under the dressing. The result:
- Drier skin under the dressing — less maceration, less adhesive lifting, fewer unscheduled changes
- Reduced bacterial environment — moisture is a primary driver of bacterial growth at IV sites; REACTIC film actively works against that condition
- Better dressing adherence — drier skin means the dressing stays in place longer, supporting the full 7-day wear interval

Application Instructions
- Prepare and dry the skin at the IV site thoroughly before application
- Remove IV3000 from sterile packaging immediately before use
- Apply dressing directly over the catheter insertion site — do not stretch the film
- Smooth from center outward to remove air bubbles and ensure full adhesion
- Do not overlap or stack dressings
- Monitor the site and dressing regularly — check for signs of infection, phlebitis, or dressing lift especially after bathing or showering
- Change dressing if it lifts, becomes saturated, or per clinical protocol — maximum 7-day wear
- If dressing comes off, evaluate catheter placement before applying a new dressing
