What is Gold Filled?

Gold filled is when a layer of gold is mechanically bonded to a base metal, usually brass. It is more durable than gold plated due to a thicker layer of the gold alloy. By law, the total weight of a gold filled item must contain 5% (or 1/20) of gold.
