By: | Series: Library of America: The American Speeches CollectionThe history of American oratory exhibits, in the words of William F. Buckley, “powerful ignition points for hot flashes of indignation, contempt, rage, veneration and yearning.” This volume (the second of an unprecedented two-volume collection) gathers the unabridged texts of 83 eloquent and dramatic speeches delivered by 45 American public figures between 1865 and 1997, beginning with Abraham Lincoln’s last speech on Reconstruction and ending with Bill Clinton’s heartfelt tribute to the Little Rock Nine. During this period American political oratory continued to evolve, as a more conversational style, influenced by the intimacy of radio and television, emerged alongside traditional forms of rhetoric.
Included are speeches on Reconstruction by Thaddeus Stevens and African-American congressman Robert Brown Elliott, Frederick Douglass’s brilliant oration on Abraham Lincoln, and Oliver Wendell Holmes’s “touched with fire” Memorial Day Address. Speeches by Robert Ingersoll and William Jennings Bryan capture the fervor of 19th-century political conventions, while Theodore Roosevelt and Carl Schurz offer opposing views on imperialism. Ida B. Wells and Mary Church Terrell denounce the cruelty of lynching and the injustice of Jim Crow; Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Carrie Chapman Catt advocate the enfranchisement of women; and Woodrow Wilson and Henry Cabot Lodge present conflicting visions of the League of Nations.
Also included are wartime speeches by George Patton and Dwight Eisenhower; an address on the atomic bomb by J. Robert Oppenheimer; Richard Nixon’s “Checkers Speech;” Malcolm X’s “The Ballot or the Bullet;” Barry Goldwater’s speech to the 1964 Republican convention; Mario Savio urging Berkeley students to stop “the machine;” Barbara Jordan defending the Constitution during Watergate; and an extensive selection of speeches by Franklin Roosevelt, Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan.
Each volume contains biographical and explanatory notes, and an index

Cute, different, and good quality
I had these for my kids when they were little. I am now buying them for my first grandchild. They appear to be the same good quality they were years ago. I highly recommend : )

Great shoes for the little one taking his/her first steps
Great shoes for the little one taking his/her first steps!! I actually ordered 2 pairs, one for my son in the 12-18 months (even tho he was 10 months old) and a 6-12 month for a friend. The 6-12 month fit my son perfect!! (my son was in a size 5) but I knew they would only last a few weeks so I kept the 12-18 month ones and he started wearing them. He seemed to like them, never tried taking them off and they were easier to walk in than socks but for some reason the top of the foot area is HUGE! They stayed on no problem but lots of wiggle room in the top... He is now running and wears shoes with a thicker sole for the rocks but we still love these for inside when it is too cold to go barefoot. I would say the 12-18 month fit like an average size 6.

Great barefoot option for early walkers!
Size: 12-18 Months Infant, Color: Grey
A moccasin is such a great place to start! Buying barefoot shoes can be hard.. they’re not always the cutest, can be expensive & there’s a lot to pay attention to! We love moccasins as a great first shoe for our boys. Perfect for summer because they’re more like a sandal & let in air flow.
Why we love:
✨Meets barefoot-style checklist
✨SUPER inexpensive
✨Quality made & last a long time
✨Lots of style & sizing options
✨Breathable
✨Easy to put on & take off
✨They protect feet all while still giving a sensory experience
These ones do run big, so size down. If you’re looking for a shoe that has more grip on the bottom, there are tons of moccasin style shoes with grip as well.
Give these a shot if you have a fresh walker on your hands!

Great shoes for first time walkers!
Size: 12-18 Months Infant, Color: Grey, Size: 12-18 Months Infant, Color: Grey
The material is great! My child likes it and hasn’t tried to take them off! They are lightweight and not bulky. Very flexible ! Also I did my research and it’s made in the UK and made with genuine leather! The color is cute as well! Wish they did have more variety here in Amazon but still okay with it!

Cute, soft, comfy
Size: 6-12 Months Infant, Color: Navy
I wanted a leather sole shoe for my ten month old daughter for playing outside this summer so she could have protection for her feet without a hard “supportive” shoe inhibiting her ability to learn to balance or affecting her feet as the bones continue to develop.
These are perfect, they are soft and easy to put on. The elastic in the ankle holds it on without being too tight and it doesn’t dig into her skin at all. Provide protection and grip as she learns to walk and are not too bulky at all. I got the 9-12 month size and it has enough room to accommodate a chubbier foot than my daughter has, but still fits well and looks adorable.
