Please note that the permit kiosk previously operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe near the put-in at Highway 60 is no longer available. You need to be sure to obtain your WMAT recreation permit before you get to the river.
The side canyons on river left just upstream and downstream from Horseshoe Bend (mile 39) flashed in 2021, completely damming the river and forcing the current to flow through a thicket of tamarisk on river right. Floods in early 2023 reestablished the river channel close to its original location.
