Based on its high nutrient content, simplicity of growing, and ease in use, scientists regard quinoa as a potentially favorable crop to be grown in outer space. Its fiber content is a lot higher than many other grains, and it has a somewhat nutty flavor and aroma. Quinoa is frequently used as a great substitute for rice.
There are approximately 120 varieties of Quinoa including colorful red, white and black among others. White is lighter and fluffier than others. Used also in salads, soups, for burger patties and desserts, it can be transformed into trouble-free, fortified meals for every occasion. Leaves are edible, which is great news for salad lovers. Quinoa should be thoroughly rinsed before cooking.
This hearty grain has an excellent germination rate; the growing period rapidly starts in spring. It is microbial tested and closely monitored to prevent the possibility of infectious or transmittable diseases to receptacles, such as trays, jars, or sacks.
Quinoa seeds were a staple food source in South America for 6000 years. Quinoa is a pseudo grain, in that it is not a grass like most grains. Quinoa is an excellent source of vitamins and essential amino acids, containing no gluten. Quinoa makes a great breakfast cereal alone or can be added to oatmeal.
