Deze wijn van Virna Borgogno is afkomstig van zuidgerichte wijngaarden in het gelijknamige perceel in Barolo, op 250 à 260 meter hoogte. De nebbiolo, aangeplant in de jaren '70 en '80, groeit hier op een rijke, goed doorlatende bodem die kracht en finesse in perfecte balans brengt.

Na een lange maceratie van 15 tot 20 dagen, rijpt de wijn ongeveer 18 maanden in een combinatie van grote Slavonische eiken vaten en 500-liter Franse eiken tonneaux (Allier). Na een rustperiode in inox wordt de wijn gebotteld en rijpt hij nog minstens zes maanden op fles.

In het glas toont de Sarmassa zich met een nog frisse neus van rood fruit en subtiele kruidige en houterige toetsen. In de mond is hij droog, vol en krachtig, met een indrukwekkende structuur en stevige tannine die garant staan voor een lange levensduur. Dit is een Barolo met ruggengraat, die zich prachtig ontwikkelt met de jaren.

Een wijn voor liefhebbers van klassieke, gestructureerde Barolo – ideaal voor wie geduld weet te waarderen. Serveer op 16°C en geef hem de tijd om te ademen in een breder glas en/of een karaf in zijn jeugd.

I've found this brand to have gotten better over the years as far as offering the American market what it needs in terms of realistic sizing. Yes, a lot of others just don't for reasons I can't fathom, and the pic you're seeing is accurate, these will form to your shape without being ridiculously thin material. Several washes later and they are as fine a garment as when I first wore them. I've only found one other brand that compares to these but it's much more expensive, COOFANDY is affordable in these times of expensive everything. Warm but also a lightweight shirt, I've gotten them really dirty with actual dirt and it washes out so well you'd never know it. Don't let my taking off one star stop you, try one yourself and you'll be coming back for more.
