The medium is highly nutritious and can be used in the enrichment of growth broths before subculturing clostridia to solid agar. Beef Extract and Casein Peptone provide nutrients such as amino acids, peptides, carbohydrates and vitamins. Dextrose is an energy source for the bacteria. Sodium Chloride provides essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium. Low concentrations of Soluble Starch help detoxify metabolic by-products. L-Cysteine HCl acts as a reducing agent and Sodium Acetate as a buffer. The medium contains a small amount of Agar to concentrate CO2 while dispersing O2 and reducing substances. There is a choice of 3 sizes - 500g, 2kg, and 10kg.
PREPARATION: Mix 38 grams of the medium in one liter of purified water until evenly dispersed. Heat with repeated stirring to dissolve completely. Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
